About me and Pricing Information

Hello there! My name is Kim Ahern.  I am a photography and art addict.

I first became interested in photography as a little girl, watching my dad meticulously document his six children’s lives with his favorite Nikon cameras in both print and slide film.  I can still see him sitting on the sofa by the lamp writing every f-stop, shutter speed and film type on the back of absolutely every photograph he made.

I was armed with his favorite Nikon camera and 50mm f1.4 AI lens when I took my first photography class in 1984(!). I fell in love. I could have spent hours in the dark room with the metallic smell of developer and fixer, dodging and burning to my heart’s content.  I had found my calling.

The first home my husband and I purchased together was picked solely on the fact that it had a perfect location for a darkroom-the rest of the house didn't make any sense, in hindsight.  However, I never did build my darkroom.

I was a late convert to the digital age of photography, as my love of the look of film had a hold on me.   I did, however, purchase my first digital SLR camera in early 2008 while I was pregnant with our fourth.  Although I was skeptical about digital photography, I was able to document the first days of our daughter’s life.  This is our Lily at eleven days old.

I became a digital convert!

Since that time I have studied Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom, from a graphic design perspective, in college.  I am now completely in love with what we can do in the digital art form from a photographic standpoint.  The possibilities are endless.

I absolutely love to catch the fleeting moments of those precious times as our families grow and change.  We can never get those times back, but we can capture what we can with photography.

If you like my style of photography, please contact me and I’ll be happy to send you more information about what to expect the day of your shoot.  I shoot both natural light and strobe, in my home studio, and on location.
